YouTube’s New Policy Strikes Crypto Channels, Creators Seek Clarity
Several high-profile crypto content creators woke up on Tuesday to the news that their channels had either been removed or received a strike under YouTube’s newly updated policy framework.
The change, which was introduced last month, began taking effect this week and is causing a significant impact on crypto YouTube. Thousands of channels involved with NFTs and memecoins are getting strikes, but this wave of enforcement is also expanding into some traditional crypto content.
YouTube mostly relies on automated moderation that, while effective, can lead to a few false flags. Just a few days ago, stories erupted about tech content creator "Enderman" getting his channel taken down. YouTube later reinstated the channel, noting that the removal had been the result of an automated moderation decision.
YouTube’s Policy Update
On October 28, the platform unveiled a “strengthened approach to online gambling and graphic violence in gaming” update, aiming to tighten enforcement on gambling content disguised as gaming. While the update did not explicitly mention crypto, YouTube clarified that content involving NFTs and “items that have monetary value” could fall under its expanded policy.
Despite only taking effect now, the new policy will also review past videos, and YouTube recommends that content creators self‑curate by removing or blurring any material that could be interpreted as breaking the rules.
However, occasional moderation mistakes seem to be impacting educational creators who primarily produce technical and market analysis.
The Backlash
Andy Jack, a professional trader and content creator of 6 years, received the first strike on his channel following these updates. Jack, who, on top of running a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers, never engaged in NFT sales nor Web3 gaming — but rather focused on educational technical analysis on YouTube.

However, Andy Jack is far from the only one affected by the recent enforcement. Ren Neuner, a professional trader and the first person to present a crypto-focused program on CNBC, spoke about the uncertainty that crypto content creators are under right now.
"I know that at any moment I could get a YouTube strike, or a series of strikes, that may force me to close the entire business overnight and destroy my work and that of my 100 employees." Neuner wrote on X.
Many creators who have been affected are now requesting that the platform provide a manual review of their content to ensure that educational or analytical material is not mistakenly categorized under gambling‑related policies.
