Coinbase Enables SOL Transfers on Base Network
Coinbase has officially enabled Solana (SOL) deposits and withdrawals directly via its Base network, marking a notable interoperability upgrade between two of the most active retail ecosystems in crypto.
Users can now deposit native SOL and receive it on Base, or withdraw SOL from Base directly to a Solana wallet. The process is handled natively within Coinbase, removing the need for external bridges or manual wrapping.
The integration is powered by Coinbase’s recently launched Base–Solana bridge, which converts SOL into an ERC-20 representation usable across Base’s DeFi ecosystem. The bridge infrastructure is secured by Coinbase and Chainlink, allowing SOL liquidity to move seamlessly between Solana’s Layer 1 and Ethereum’s Layer 2 environment.
From a user perspective, the experience is simplified to a network selection: choosing “Base” when transferring SOL automatically handles the conversion behind the scenes. Once on Base, SOL can be used across EVM-compatible applications, including decentralized exchanges and lending protocols.
The rollout is live as of December 23, 2025, though availability is restricted in several jurisdictions. Customers in New York, Canada, the UK, Japan, and select other regions are currently excluded due to regulatory constraints.
Rather than positioning Base as a closed ecosystem, the move reflects Coinbase’s broader strategy of consolidating liquidity across chains on its own infrastructure.
By supporting native-style transfers for non-Ethereum assets like SOL, Coinbase is turning Base into a settlement layer where assets from competing networks can coexist, interact, and be deployed without friction.
The update also underscores a broader shift in how major exchanges approach interoperability, moving away from fragmented third-party bridges and toward vertically integrated, exchange-secured rails for cross-chain asset movement.
